History of the Victory Apostolic Faith Church Sunday School Department and the Superintendent that served in Department Faithfully

Sunday School was instituted at the very beginning of the church opening.  the doors opened on July 10th, a961 under the profound leadership of then Elder Reese Price Jr. He is the founder and pastor of this great church.  Having set at his feet in bible classes and also Apostolic Instructions, Victory has turned out some wonderful men and women of God.  As far as I was able to determine, the late Elder Darnell Carter was the first Sunday school Superintendent at the 6317 S. Carpenter edifice.  Elder Carter’s tenure ended in the area of 1971.

In 1973 the superintendent was Elder Ula T. Jennings.  He is now District Elder and the pastor of True Gospel Apostolic Church. He remained so until 1081. Brother Adeboye Makinde served as Sunday School Superintendent after District Elder Jennings until 1983.

Elder Jerry L. Jones Sr. was Victory’s next superintendent.  Who now prestigious in his own right holds many offices?  Mainly the pastor in the title of Bishop Jerry L. Jones Sr. of the Lord Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith Church.

The Victory church has been blessed with very dedicated secretaries. Sister Lolita Davis served in the capacity.  After which mother susie walker sloan was the next secretary, who then turned the secretarial duties over to Sister Eunice Jefferson.  Sister Eunice Jefferson has been one faithful secretary for many years.  Sister Jefferson informed me that it was under the administration of now bishop Jerry L. Jones Sr. that two more secretaries were added.  Sister Ruth Price was 1st assistant and sister Deborah Stokes the 2nd assistant. Sister Deborah Stokes now also serves in the most capable position of Sunday school secretary of the Illinois State Council of the P.C.A.F. Sister Yvonia Johnson has also been added to our secretarial staff.

the next superintendent was Elder Ricardo Christopher whose assistant was first Sister Lillian Bauswell then Deacon, now Elder Johnnie R. C. Tyler, assistant pastor of the Victory church. The Victory church as been blessed with competent leaders in our Sunday school department.

Deacon Joseph tidwell is the present Sunday school superintendent. His assistant is Sister Lillian Bauswell whose tenure as the former Sunday school superintendent of Victory church were several years. She informed me that she has since been elevated to the ministry.  She is the one that instituted the 66 Club.  The 66 club is now under the leadership of Sister Angie Miller. The Criteria of being a member of the 66 club are to know the 66 books of the Bible and then be able to recite them.

As we look back on our Sunday school history the Victory church was blessed with new members and a faithful Sunday school staff.  In the year 2000 the Sunday school department went door to door recruiting along with our 1st lady Sister Ruth Price along.  We also had a long-standing teacher downstairs retire: she was Sister Glorener Conditt.  Sister Glorener Conditt will be missed.

In the mid 1980’s, the superintendent Elder Jerry L. Jones Sr. gave me a project to do for him.  It was to find out how long each teacher had been teaching. I felt it would be a great honor to mention those teachers that were then and now still are teaching, or working in some capacity in our Sunday school department.  Sister Eunice Jefferson gad been a teacher for 19 years.  sister Virginia Brown had been teaching for 4 years and is still a teacher, 20 years to date.  Sister Lucille Brown was teaching at that time, 9 years, 25 years to date.  Sister Karetha brown had been teaching for 2 years, 18 years to date.  Sister Glorener Conditt had been teaching 6 years.  She taught for 21 years and retired.  Sister Deborah Rice had been teaching for 2 years.  18 years to date. Elder Robert McKinstry and Deacon Willie Brown Were Also Teachers. I do not have the years of their tenure.

As we venture into the year 2002 let us all continue to work to make our Sunday school department the greatest, not only in the P.C.A.F. organization, but also in the Apostolic movement.

We are also glad to mention our illustrious associate pastor District Elder Robert McKinstry, still teaching and working faithfully with our Sunday school in spite of many other obligations.

It has been for stated to save the best for last, that is to say that the Victory Apostolic Faith church Sunday school could not exist except for the man of God. One who started a work on July 10th, 1961, so we say to God be the Glory for our pastor the most honorable Bishop Dr. Reese Price Jr.
